چکیده
A lot of predictions for the statistical properties of the cosmic velocity field at large-scale have been obtained recently using perturbation theory. In this contribution I report the outcomes of a set of numerical tests that aim to check these results. Using Voronoi and Delaunay tessellations for defining the velocity field by interpolation between the particle velocities in numerical simulations, we have been able to get reliable estimates of the local velocity gradients. Thus, we have been able to show that the properties of the velocity divergence are in very good agreement with the analytical results. In particular we have confirmed the Ω dependence expected for the shape of its distribution function.

We investigate the influence that projection effects have on the completeness of the the Abell cluster catalogue in the context of an Ω 0 = 1 CDM Universe. We construct a galaxy catalogue and identify clusters using an algorithm that mimics Abell's method. Over 30% of Richness Class ≥1 clusters have been selected despite not meeting the required intrinsic (3D) richness criterion. Velocity dispe...

The non–linear dynamics of self–gravitating irrotational dust is analyzed in a general relativistic framework, using synchronous and comoving coordinates. Writing the equations in terms of the metric tensor of the spatial sections orthogonal to the fluid flow allows an unambiguous expansion in inverse powers of the speed of light. The Newtonian and post–Newtonian approximations are derived in L...

The stellar ejection rate and the rates of change of the binary semimajor axis and eccentricity are derived from scattering experiments for the restricted three-body problem. They are used to study the evolution of binaries in simple models for galactic nuclei, starting soon after the black holes become bound and continuing until the evolution is dominated by the emission of gravitational radia...
